ASX-listed Viking Mines has formally lodged a notice of intent with the Bureau of Land Management in the US, which completes the final federal regulatory requirements necessary to launch a 63-hole drill programme at the Linka tungsten project, in Nevada.

The company aims to verify historic high-grade intercepts including 8.5 m of tungsten trioxide grading 1%. The project historically produced 65 000 t of tungsten trioxide grading 0.54% until 1956.

Viking will undertake the first drilling on the project in 40 years, including testing of the south-west extension to the main drill area where samples have returned grades of up to 0.6% tungsten trioxide.

Additionally, the company will undertake regional reconnaissance drilling to validate geophysical models and to identify prospective mineralised contact zones across the Linka complex.

Site mobilisation is targeted before the end of June once approval from the bureau is received, with drill contractor evaluations being in final stages.
